Did you miss me?

Description

“Well, hello there, Mother,” Sebastian said in a voice like silk. “Surprised to see me?”

Ever since I read that teaser I've had this image of Jonathan slouched in a sofa, feet up on the table sort of thing and I've a couple of initial pose ideas sketched out on my hard drive. Then the most amazing thing happened. I saw this [link]

So I make no pretense of having come up with the pose, it is directly referenced, but I did render this free-hand and if I have to overlay one image on top of the other to prove that I will (don't make me do that you shouldn't have to). It was just too perfect to pass up.

Wood, wall and denim textures from google, everything else was done from the ground up. I had three different faces up next to me for referance on facial shading. Wanted to practice realism for a while and this seemed like the perfect piece to try it on. Not entirely sure I got the depth of expression I was looking for but that might be because I've been watching the last season of Yu-Gi-Oh >>;; Malik and Bakura have some extreme faces at times. It's hard to compare.

So yes, I'm very proud of this. Dat chair looks like an oil painting.

Not sure what else to say really except...

Hi. I'm so sorry it took me so long to respond to this. I've not been here in ages. That said, on with the requested critique. Thanks for asking me.

First, I really love the expression you've drawn upon Sebastian's face. It just screams attitude and arrogance, along with some long buried hurt and hostility.

Also, I like how you've drawn him seemingly at ease in the chair when we all know that he's just waiting for the right moment to pounce. Love the color of the chair, too. It kind of reminds me of all the blood he's spilt on his quest and how much more he's likely to spill before it's all over.

His shirt also looks a bit like a prison uniform...so that is great, I think, because he has always kind of been in his own personal prison.

Overall, I like how much detail you've put into not only Sebastain, but also his surroundings. The background seems as cold and desolate as his heart has become, which I think works very well for a depiction of his character.

Really great job.
